CHATHAM ARCH. Agio is a great place to grab a satisfying dinner, especially before or after going to the theater. The spacious interior has a modern bent, and the extensive menu presents a variety of tantalizing Mediterranean dishes. Cioppino (or "poor fisherman's stew") is the specialty, but dishes like sautéed pistachio-crusted salmon or lamb garnished with figs and pine nuts are equally satisfying. Service is friendly and accommodating.

This posh establishment occupies a historic brick building near Conseco Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers. Inside, two floors are decked out in contemporary flair, complete with a steel bar, polished wood paneling, and a limestone fireplace. When weather permits, diners can enjoy their meal on the rooftop. Although the specialty is aged prime steaks, additional menu items include a variety of Mediterranean dishes, a delicious shrimp cocktail, and an even better crab cake entree. Business attire. Indulge your senses at this original restaurant that serves up authentic Ethiopian and Middle Eastern cuisine. Plan on taking time to savor the five course meal that's replete with goodies like pita bread served with vegetable spreads, soups, kabobs, stews and fruit tarts. Don't expect utensils; there aren't any. Do expect to sit on the floor on large cushions; there are plenty of those. Belly dancers perform to the delight of diners on weekend nights.

DOWNTOWN. If you are in the mood to dine in style, this is the place to go. Palomino's enjoys a convenient downtown location and offers excellent views of the passersby in this popular area. The interior decor consists of deep red colors, contemporary arrangements and impressive art. The innovative menu has been carefully selected and includes such dishes as braised lamb shank with mashed yams, penne pasta with spit-roasted salmon in a light cream sauce, and Asiago cheese.

Sangiovese's unassuming exterior is hardly indicative of what's inside: an elegant wooden bar, roomy seating area, and a charming, vine-covered back patio. Smartly-dressed locals return to treat themselves to a cool mozzarella salad and a mushroom-stuffed grilled pork loin, among myriad Italian and Mediterranean options. A rotating chef's special keeps regulars happy, as does the fine dessert list and strong après-dinner espressos. Occasional live jazz is an unexpected change of pace from the usual piped-in arias.
